Plot:

Daisy (Cate Blanchett) is on her deathbed during the Hurricane Katrina evacuation, and asks her daughter (Julia Ormond) to read extracts from the diary of her friend Benjamin Button (Pitt). According to the diary and her memories, he was born with all the traces of old age (cataracts, arthritis etc) and as he grew seemed to grow a little more healthy each day, although he was still suffering from extreme old age and found it difficult to move around. The rest of the pages reveal his various exploits, most of any note start when he finally got his sea legs.

So, how does it end?

As it turns out, his diary isn't as exciting as Forrest Gump's.
When Daisy and Benjamin were about the same age, they were most in love and lived life every second of the day.
Benjamin knew what was happening to him, so decided to leave - to see the world again and also so that he would not be a burden later in life to Daisy.
When he returns later, he finds that Daisy is running a dance school, and is married with a daughter. That doesn't stop her and she cheats on her husband with Benjamin that night.
In the modern timeline Julia Ormond realises that Benjamin was her real father and is visibly shaken by the news.
Later, from Daisy's memories, she tells how she got a call from the Child Services team who found a young boy with signs of dementia - she was traced through details left in his diary. She takes him in and cares for him - each day he grows smaller and younger. On one sad day, while a baby in her arms, he gave her one last knowing smile and then dies in her arms.
The movie ends with the hurricane in full force outside the hospital doors.
