Plot:

The wealthy penthouse owner of a Tower Block is indicted for fraud and held under house-arrest to the disgust of the building staff who have lost all their life savings and pension funds which they trusted to his care. Josh Kovaks (Ben Stiller) has always been loyal to his tenants, especially Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda), but when poor Lester the Doorman tries to take his own life rather than face financial ruin, he decides to take matters into his own hands -- they're going to get back their money one way or another by planning a heist on their own building!

So, how does it end?

Charlie (Casey Affleck) backs out of the heist when he is offered Josh's old role as building manager. He warns the team that he will stop them if they continue to go after Arthur Shaw's money.

Special Agent Denham and the Feds respond to a request to take Shaw to the Judge on Thanksgiving during the Macy's Parade.

Josh's team wait for the parade to start as planned -- except Slide (Eddie Murphy) has double-crossed them. He meets with Mr Simon, posing as somebody interested in an apartment. While being shown around, he locks Mr Simon in a cupboard and turns up the music.

Josh and his team enter the building while the workers get outside to see Snoopy. Odessa then brings out a birthday cake allowing them to slip inside and climb the stairs to the top.

Inside Shaw's apartment Josh takes a sledgehammer to the wall and uncovers the safe ... but there's nothing inside. Slide shows up with a gun and there's a stand-off -- until Fitzhugh (Broderick) snatches the gun and accidentally fires a shot straight into the Ferrari ... which turns out to be made of solid gold.

Josh has an idea -- they use a winch from the roof to hoist the car out the penthouse apartment, and lower it down to Fitzhugh's old apartment floor.  Shaw and the Feds return from the wild goose chase of the fake court date - meaning that Josh and Slide need to escape out the window and slide down the ropes after the Ferrari.  Fitzhugh struggles to get the Ferrari inside, but they just about manage. They push it on top of the elevator - which takes it straight back up to the penthouse floor.

Shaw is furious when he sees that his car is gone -- and worse is about to be arrested again when they find the broken safe in the apartment that wasn't disclosed to the Feds.

Meanwhile Lester the doorman loads a truck and makes a run for it. The Feds follow and stop him -- but the car is not inside. Somehow, they quickly manage to track down and arrest Josh, Enrique, Fitzhugh and others involved without much effort -- but no one is talking about the whereabouts of the car.

While Josh is being interrogated, the Russian staff member who studied for the Bar exam turns up - and she's actually pretty good. They somehow manage to blackmail the Feds and Josh gets off with a small prison term.

When the heat dies down, the workers return to Shaw's Penthouse pool on the roof -- and take off the covers to reveal the submerged car.

As it ends, the Tower workers each receive a parcel in the mail -- solid gold parts from the Ferrari. To be fair some get better parts than others - while some are the new owners of solid gold hubcaps, poor Lester just gets the steering wheel. Arthur and Josh both head off to jail in a fairly downbeat ending sequence!

(In an alternative ending we see Josh leave prison after his stretch where he meets Agent Denholm again at a party the Tower staff have thrown to celebrate.  Denholm is wearing a huge gold piston ring.)
