Plot:

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is desperate to sign-up to the army and help the war effort against the Nazis, but he is deemed unfit for service because of his height, weight, physique, and many medical conditions. His tenacity does not go unnoticed, and soon enough Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) asks Steve if he would like to take part in a ground-making experiment using radiation, to create a super-soldier. The experiment is a success and Captain America is born -- but steve must fight against the good Doctor's failed experiment - an evil genius who shares his abilities by the name of Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving), who has adopted the sinister persona of "Red Skull", and gathered an army bent on the destruction of the world.

So, how does it end?

Steve and his team take out all of Hydra's weapon plants except one. Soon they have intel that Red Skull's right-hand man, Dr Zola, is on a high-speed train travelling across the Alps. They zip-wire onto the moving train and break inside - then fight their way through the carriages. Zola has a few dreadnaught-style Hydra soldiers with laser cannons to defend him - and when a carriage wall is blasted out, Steve cannot help his best friend who falls to his death. Zola is captured and interrogated. Steve is inconsolable and needs a pep talk from Peggy to perk him up.

Rogers gets on a bike and rides straight into Red Skull's fortress and last remaining Hydra plant. He takes out many of the enemy but is soon captured and taken to the boss. Slowly Red Skull realises it's a trap when Steve's team break into the fortress, and the Colonel sends in the troops to mount a massive assault. Red Skull escapes and gets into a B52-style bomber, and taxis ready for take-off. Steve needs a lift from the Colonel and Peggy in Hydra's super-powered car to jump onto the wheel of the B52 and make it inside as it soars away.

Almost immediately little Hydra agents make their way into smaller missile crafts, each bound for a different US city. Steve takes out a few of them, but a NY agent slips away. Steve, and another Hydra hanger-on, cling on as the Hydra pilot tries to shakes them off. The other Hydra soldier is soon sliced up, while Steve smashes a fist through the windshield and heaves the pilot out. Steve manages to turn the missile around, and lands it back on the B52.

Steve makes his way to the control room to confront Red Skull. A few shots are fired, while Red Skull grabs the Tesseract and holds up his 'precious'. Soon a black-hole appears above his head, and he is obliterated. The Tesseract, still glowing, burns through the ship and falls into the Atlantic Ocean.

Steve grabs the controls and radios his team, but he is unable to shake the bomber from its course. He tells Peggy that he is looking forward to their date ... as he crashes the plane into the ocean to protect America.

Howard Stark is sweeping the ocean and finds, and retrieves, the Tesseract. Next - he finds the bomber.

Steve awakes in a war-time hospital, looking quite healthy. A baseball game is on the radio. A nurse, who looks like Peggy, walks into the room - but Steve knows something is up -- he was at that baseball which is meant to be "live". He breaks through the wall of the room to find that it's all a set-up. He pushes past some weak guards and gets out into the street - to find that he is in modern-era Time Square, New York.

Nick Fury shows up and Steve is surrounded. Fury apologises for the act, and explains that he has been in suspended animation since the accident. He tells Rogers that America needs his help. Steve is gutted that he missed his date.

After the credits we see Rogers slamming his fists into a punch-bag in the gym (that scene from The Avengers), while Fury shows up and says that he is needed on a mission. We then have a preview of The Avengers.
