Is the girl really a witch? There's a bluff, a double-bluff, a triple ...
Well, when crossing the rickety old bridge she saves the altarboy from falling by grabbing his wrist, and single-handedly pulling him up.
On the other side, Hagamar the guide attempts to kill her before he is stopped by the others. The girl howls to summons wolves, which become more ferocious with some werewolf curse effect. The men defeat the first pack, but take to their horses.
The wolves take out Hagamar, and the men must leave him behind.
Behmen has had enough, before another dies he just wants rid of the witch. The Priest begs him not to - they can see the Friar's monastery in the distance.
The monastery is deserted. They enter the main chamber - and all the monks have died from the plague. One, on the way out, raises his hand to point to the book that will lift the plague.
Debelzaq the Priest starts to read the words of Solomon - but something is wrong. The iron bars of the girl's cage melt. They suddenly realise - she is not a witch but something much worse. The girl transforms into a winged demon and escapes.
The men hide in the monastery and find an upper room with more monks - all tied to pages of the book they are copying.
The Priest puts it all together - she wanted to be taken to the monastery, the only place in the world with that book. The demon plans to destroy the book and take the plague to ravage the earth.
Smaller demons enter the mouths of the monks - who vanish.
The demon returns for a final battle. First the men must defeat the monks, and take their chances with the evil force.
Felson saves his friend's life, but is burned alive. Debelzaq reads the words from the book, but his neck is broken. Kay the altarboy continues where he left off. Behmen defeats the last monk - and then keeps the demon busy while the altar boy finishes the recital. Behmen is fatally stabbed, several times.
The recital is finished - and the demon is destroyed. The girl is left behind - confused but unharmed. Behmen dies, but content that he saved the life of a young girl with his dying breath.
Kay the altar boy buries the warriors, then together with the girl they leave the monastery to tell the story of the brave knights.
