Trusted by the humans he saved before, Elvis lets him in on his secret - that he was turned into a vampire, but after being burned close to death by the sun and then doused by a quick dip in a lake, he was turned back.
They create test conditions using one of the air-tight vats in the old farm. Meanwhile, the human convoy has been taken out by vampire soldiers - and the vamps now know the location of the human hideout.
As the humans leave to get to the senator's log cabin, Edward, Audrey and Elvis stay behind to continue the experiments. On the third or fourth attempt it works - and Edward is instantly human again. They get to the cabin - but it's been hit by vamps and everyone is dead.
They go to see Edward's friend - the other scientist from the lab. The scientist deceives them and Audrey is taken. Edward and Elvis make a run for it, but are tracked by Edward's brother, Frankie. Frankie gives in to his blood lust and bites Elvis - instantly something weird happens.
Edward walks in to the Government building to surrender. He is brought to (Sam Neill) Charles Bromley's office, and sat down next to a bleeding Audrey. Edward taunts him about his daughter, so that Charles bites him -- but then reacts to this anti-venom in his blood and is turned human. Edward sends him down to the ground floor in the lift.
The guards find Charles tied up, and immediately start to eat him alive. They are turned, and attacked by other guards and so on.
Edward and Audrey are surrounded by more guards - but Frankie arrives. He offers himself to the guards, sparking the cure again.
Soon just a few, stunned, guards are left. The scientist emerges and shoots the soldiers. He explains that he likes being a vampire and doesn't want a cure - and his substitute works.
Elvis finally emerges and kills him.
As dawn hits the city, the three emerge, ready to save the world.
