Plot:

Morgan Freeman is back as unwilling criminal psychologist Alex Cross, caught up in a game by serial killer and kidnapper of the Senator's daughter Gary Soneji (Michael Wincott - you'll know him from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves).  Assisted by Special Agent Jezzie Flanagan (Monica Potter), Alex must play along with Soneji, and deal with the intrusion of the press, to lure the killer into a trap and rescue little Megan before it's too late.

So, how does it end?

Gary Soneji bundles the real kidnapping ploy of grabbing the little Russian kid Dimitri (a fat Anton Yelchin, from Terminator Salvation) outside his home -- but, as he was working in the school for 2 and a half years in disguise ...and the first kidnapping wasn't an amazingly-well executed plan ... then why didn't he just kidnap the little Russian kid instead at the start?

Anyway he is tracked going back to his boat. Once he arrives back, he sees that Megan has gone.

Next day, Alex receives a call and the kidnapper wants $10million of diamonds as a ransom. The Feds get the gems together, and Alex is made to run around town - before finally on the subway he throws the container out the window to the kidnapper who is waiting.

That night Alex and Jezzie are talking over the change in motives when Gary shows up and zaps Jezzie with a taser. He has a little chat with Alex, who assumes from his body language, expressions and response to errors (eg $12million in diamonds and not $10million) that he doesn't have Megan - and is not working alone. There is a shootout and Alex kills Gary with Jezzie's monster shotgun.

Meanwhile, Megan has been taken to some stables outside of town by the other Secret Service agent from the school. Jezzie shows up, we see that they are partners, and as he was careless she shoots him dead. Megan wisely decides not to trust her old bodyguard, and instead escapes from her wooden prison.

Alex, who has pieced the crime together now, turns up (somehow knowing where they'll all be) and rescues Megan. Jezzie confronts him - and asks if he would kill another partner. Alex says they were never partners - and shoots her in the chest. Checking that she is dead, Alex finds Megan again, and they leave the barn together.

Comments

Poor Michael Wincott - no matter what he does on the screen he'll always be known as the greasy Guy of Gisbourne from Costner's Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, and second-rate bad-guy to Alan Rickman's Sheriff/King John.
