Jack and Joy try their best to make life difficult for the other, but of course end up growing closer together. When Jack is a huge hit at Joy's company retreat, she starts to fall for him.
While making her way to the final hearing, Joy bumps into her ex who hands her back the engagement ring, and Joy knows it was all just a setup by Jack - but not realising that it was all planned before Jack had feelings for her.
At the hearing the judge listens to Queen Latifah's advice that they are meant for each other, and awards each half of the money. Joy refuses her share, and hands back the ring to Jack. Jack's lawyer is over the moon as it's the first case he has ever won.
Joy wins the promotion at work, but realises she is not truly happy there so tells the boss to give it to the moody Asian girl, and quits.
Jack is racked with guilt and can't find her anywhere. After talking to her best friend, he knows to find her at a place where she feels happy - so he travels along the coast looking for a lighthouse, and finds her alone on the beach. They make up, both still unemployed, but it doesn't matter as they have a nice sum in the bank.
Before the credits we see the drunken Vegas wedding. And then Joy's friend punching the ex in the crotch when he answers the door ... and a final scene after the credits when the dude from The Hangover wants to hang out still with the lawyer guy, who tells him it's over as Jack was their only connection. Without a friend in the world now he grabs a random guy on the street and asks if he wants to party.
