Tag-line One wrong flight can ruin your whole day

Cameron Poe (Nicholas Cage) is a former US Ranger who always finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Recently released from prison for man-slaughter committed in self-defence, he must hitch a ride on 'Con Air' - a passenger plane filled with some of the country's meanest criminals including Cyrus the Virus (Ving Rhames), Diamond Dog (Ving Rhames) and Garland Greene (Steve Buscemi) who are en-route to a new maximum-security prison.  Problem this time, is that Cyrus has been planning this vacation for some time...

So, how does it end?

Cyrus and Diamond Dog figure they have a spy on board and suspect Poe.  Cyrus takes a gun to the female guard's head but his friend Bubba owns up instead. Cyrus shoots him in the chest.  Cyrus is going to kill Poe anyway but a Fed gunship turns up and opens fire.

Knowing that they'll all die unless he does somethign soon, Poe storms to the front of the plane taking out everyone he faces and ending by slapping Sally-Can't-Dance.

Larkin is in a separate chopper and gets in the way of the gunship's missile lock.

In the cockpit, Larkin gets on the radio and finally Malloy gives in, but the plane is still going down.

Cage arrives back in Vegas and they crash land on the strip. The rapist is dismembered in the carnage, the officers get off the plane alive, Bubba makes it, and the prisoners are mostly rounded up.

Cage and Larkin both notice a fire engine leaving the scene at the same time and jump onto police bikes. They give chase and there's more destruction.

Cyrus uses the water cannon to take out some other cops while Poe jumps onto the back of the fire truck leaving his bike to power into the engine, exploding and taking out Ving Rhames.

Poe and Cyrus battle, Poe stabbing the bad guy in the leg before chaining him to the top ladder.  Larkin takes an axe to the cabin to try and get the driver to pull over.

Cyrus is catapulted onto an electric fence, then taken on a treadmill into the path of a construction site's drill (or rock crusher?) which decapitates him, just to make sure.

And the bunny survives.  Poe then reunites with his wife and daughter, and back in the casino Garland Greene is reformed and feeling lucky as "Sweet Home Alabama" kicks in again.

I admit it - I was wrong. When I first saw this at the cinema back in the day I moaned on that John Malkovich was badly cast as Cyrus the Virus. Up to this point he'd only ever been in indie movies or period dramas and a bigger name would have made it a better box-office hit. Now that he's obviously a lot more famous than in 1997, this is probably John Malkovich at his best (yes, even better than when he was hard up for cash in Johnny English). So, ok Mr West, you win in the end.
