Plot:

The second edition of the Lord of the Ring’s trilogy begins with our Fellowship split into three; Frodo (the one with the ring) and his gardener Sam are heading towards Mordor whilst Aragon, Legolas and Gimli are tracking the group of Uruk-hai which have taken Merry and Pippin. Meanwhile, Sauron is leading an attack on the Human nation of Rohan and Saruman's growing army is advancing on Gondor. The war for middle Earth is beginning as the Two towers have united.

Aragon, Legolas and Gimli’s search results in them finding someone they don’t expect - Gandalf the White. The trio and Gandalf make their way to Rohan where the king, Théoden, is being controlled by Sauron with the help of the slimy Wormtounge. With Theoden restored by Gandalf, Sauron attacks. The battle for Rohan takes place at the fort of Helms deep which seems impenetrable. Meanwhile Merry and Pippin have formed new allies in the shape of the Ents. After long discussion the Ents decide to take the Hobbits home, but on viewing the destruction of their home by Sauron they attack the city of Isengaurd.

So, how does it end?

The battle of Helm’s Deep begins in the pouring rain. The tens of thousands of Uruk-hai advance but dozens are shot down by both human and elven archers. The uruks place ladders upon the wall and begin to enter the battle. The wall is breached by an explosive being placed in the drain. With the fort breached the humans and elves must fall back to the keep. In the battle the elf captain Haldir (also in the Fellowship of the Ring) is killed.

The keep in under heavy attack but Aragon remembers Gandalf’s words "ride out on the fifth day". Aragon, Theoden and the rest ride out into the army of Uruks in a bid to make time for the women and children to escape. The riders are surrounded but on the horizon Gandalf arrives with Theoden’s nephew and the other exiled riders of Rohan who crush the uruk army. The battle is won.

Merry and Pippin are on their way home on the shoulders of Treebeard when Pippin decides a safer route home would be to pass by Isengaurd itself. However they are greeted with a terrible sight as they find that Isengaurd’s forces have destroyed much of the forest. Treebeard calls the other Ents who march into Isenguard and destroy the work by opening the dam and flooding the tower.

Frodo and Sam meanwhile have been taken to Osgiliath by Faramir where they meet a Ringwraith. Frodo narrowly escapes but it is clear the ring is taking its toll on his health. Faramir lets Frodo, Sam and Gollum go and finish their quest. Feeling betrayed by the capture, Gollum’s dark side becomes prominent and he hatches a plan to take Frodo and Sam to "her" and reclaim the ring for his own!
