The students accompany Hans on his journey up through Norway, studying reports of unusual activity to track Trolls that have escaped from their sanctuary. Hans manages to take a blood sample and brings it to a vet, who knows about what he does. They also clash with the Government official in charge of the cover-up, who is understandably not too happy about the film crew.
They track a large Troll family to a series of cave, and we see a softer side to Hans who detests what the government has made him do - to murder Troll children in the name of keeping order in the country. As they are leaving, the Trolls return and the film crew must hide in the caves until it is light.
Kalle starts to panic, and his sweat is driving the trolls mad. We soon learn that he is a Christian and has lied this time to keep on the project. The Trolls attack and Hans tries his best to defend the students. They race out to the entrance, but Kalle is grabbed by one of the monsters and killed.
Thomas and Johanna are determined to see it through, and recruit a new camera operator, another student with experience of wild animals and who is a Muslim, and they set off to the Troll enclosure.
The electric fence around the enclosure has been damaged, and Hans receives a call from the lab that the Trolls they've encountered so far have been infected by Rabies. Thomas, who was bitten, is also starting to show symptoms.
Hans awakens one of the largest Trolls they've seen yet, but his car is losing power and can't generate enough UV voltage to harm the creature. They escape, picking up a random scientist on the way, but the Troll destroys their vehicle. Finally, Hans manages to flash enough UV beams at the creature to injure it, and finally destroy it.
At that time, the Government show, and give chase to the students. Thomas runs off with the camera, but is caught by two agents.
In the credits, we see an interview with the Norwegian Prime Minister, sitting next to the Government official we met before, who appears to acknowledge the presence of Trolls in his country, and blames them for destroying the power lines.
The final credits also kindly tell us that no trolls were harmed in the making of this movie!
