When they finally reach Bethlehem, there is no room at any of the inns in town and Joseph is desperate as Mary has gone into labor. Finally he manages to get a roof over their heads - in a stable. As Mary gives birth, a star in the sky illuminates the sky and breaks through the clouds to shine a light onto the stable.
A heavenly host of Angels appear to shepherds in the fields outside to tell them the Good News, while Three Wise men, who have travelled from afar guided by the words of the Prophets and tracing a new heavenly star, are drawn to the stable where they present their gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
The Three Wise Men are warned to evade Herod, and when Herod gets wind of this he orders the Massacre of the Innocents in an attempt to murder the future King of Kings.
Joseph is also warned in a dream, so with Mary and the baby Jesus they make their way down to Egypt to hide from Herod and the authorities.
