Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera) are underachievers in their prehistoric community - Zed is a terrible hunter and an even worse gatherer, while Oh can't summon the courage to knock the girl he likes on the head and drag her back to his cave/tent. When Zed accidentally sets fire to the village and is banished, with Oh not far behind, he starts on a quest through the land ... and the historical accounts from Genesis, somehow condensed here into a few days, that will lead him to the fearful city of Sodom...

Well, they make it to Sodom, taken by Isaac who deserts them when they are captured by Vinnie Jones and the palace guard. They are about to be tortured or worse when Cain shows up and decides to vouch for them. They are promoted to the army, and given a good job in the city, where they notice that their old flames from the village are still alive -- and working as slaves.
The High Priest has taken a liking to Oh, and he is hired to be a golden statue at banquets ... and then later the High Priest's personal masseuse.
It hasn't rained in Sodom for many years. They regularly hold human sacrifices, but nothing is being done. Princess Inanna has an idea -- to use the brave and reckless Zed to enter the forbidden 'holy of holies' sanctuary, and see if that can make a difference. He does, it can't. He does find Oh inside, trying to hide from the Priest.
Soon enough both are captured and are to be punished by death for entering the forbidden sanctuary. They are chained in the dungeon for a long drawn out scene. Next day they win over the crowd and are saved from execution, but are to remain as slaves.
It's time for another sacrifice - but this time the King has grown tired of his daughter's moaning, and Inanna (and her maids) are sentenced to death. Overcome with bravery again, Zed fights away the guards and rescues them. Meanwhile, Oh runs off with his girl, and is proud that she is no longer a virgin, and so is saved from being sacrificed.
Abraham and his boys have also decided to gatecrash the party, and start killing palace guards.
The High Priest tries to put an end to it all, but Oh throws a jug of oil at him, and as he steps too close to the flames, is burned alive.
Soon enough, it starts to rain. Everyone is happy again. The people think that Zed is 'the chosen one' - but he humbly declines and gives a speech about 'the power within'.
It's time for everyone to go home. Oh and his girl head off back to the village, where Oh will be the chief and tell great stories about their adventures. Zed and his girl leave in the opposite direction to start a new life in Egypt.
