Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is an 8yr-old boy whose wishes come true when he is left home alone by his extended family who have decided to go to Paris for Christmas. Loving the freedom, and rare opportunity to eat his very own cheese pizza and watch movies like ""Angels with filthy souls"", he must first learn how to conquer his fear of the basement -- and then protect his house from two burglars who have targeted his rich street for the festive season.

Kevin's ""mom"" is only able to make it as far as Scranton, Pennsylvania after travelling for days and spending all her cash and trading all her valuables. Beat and about to give up, she is saved by John Candy, Polka King of the Midwest(!) and his polka band who have hired a van and are on a route past Chicago. The story by John Candy when they are in the back of the van is A-grade 'laugh out loud' absolute comedy gold.
Faced with the Wet Bandits, Kevin's booby traps in his parent's mansion come good and he burns, beats, fires, glues, feathers and whatever else he can think of to make them suffer. He leads them away from the house, where he plans to make a call from the Murphy's (a neighbour that was targeted a few days earlier). Harry and Marv go a different route and surprise him inside the other house, pinning him up against a wall.
About to bite off every finger and other nasty stuff, the old man who walks the streets smacks each of them in the face with his shovel, knocking them out cold.
The cops show up to take away the bandits - but it seems like they leave little Kevin alone in the house on Christmas Eve which doesn't really make any sense.
Anyway next morning he runs downstairs - and his mum walks through the front door ... closely followed by the rest of the family that took the direct flight from Paris.
Kevin looks out the window to see his old shovel-beating friend make amends with his own family ... and then panics when he hears Buzz walk into his trashed bedroom.
