So, how does the movie end??
Alex and Nancy hire the hitman they met at the party and sell everything they own to finance his $25k fee. The hitman uses the dumb-waiter to gain access to her apartment, but Mrs. Connolly is waiting with the harpoon and takes him out. A fire starts, and Mrs Connolly is knocked unconscious - but Alex and Nancy do the right thing and rescue her.
They find the estate agent again and decide to take a huge loss and sell the duplex. They move to The Bronx and need to start over again, selling to another young and ambitious couple.
Meanwhile the estate agent and the cop meet up at Mrs Connolly's for a cup of tea -- we learn that the estate agent is her son, and he is in a relationship with the cop. They are using the profit they made from the sale to finance a cruise to the Caribbean, and it's a scam they have done multiple times before to other couples.
Meanwhile Alex has beaten his writer's block and written a book called .... 'Duplex'!
