So, how does the movie end??
The secret service find out that Luther (Eastwood) was the witness, and the President (Hackman) orders them to get nasty and take out his daughter. The agents smash her car over a cliff edge before Luther can get to her - and she is rushed to hospital. While in the ward, the agent who was the President from 24 turns up dressed as a doctor ready to deliver a lethal injection - but Luther jumps out and stabs him with his own concoction first.
Luther takes his chauffeur role to drive the old Senator home, and on the way tells him what really happened - and hands him the bloodied envelope cutter.
The senator calls in at the White House to meet with the President, holding the weapon.
Next day, the President is found dead - apparently by committing suicide and stabbing himself. The Senator is on tv talking about his shock at 'finding' the body. Luther is waiting at his daughter's side in the hospital and is joined by a friendly Ed Harris, the head of one of the law enforcement agencies. Even though he is a career criminal, kids - it shows that sometimes crime does pay.
