Hayden Christensen is a filthy-rich capital-investment megalomaniac and, like Lex Luther, has everything in the world ... except a heart. Well, ok, he's a nice guy in this movie but has an actual problem with his ticker. He needs a full heart transplant and wants his close friend to complete the operation - even though this guy is the worst surgeon in the city and has a load of malpractice lawsuits against him, and Hayden's mother (Lena Olin from Alias) has the best Scrubs in the world lined up.
Thinking there is a chance he'll die, he does the decent thing to marry his girlfriend (Jessica Alba) just before he goes into surgery (and leave her as a rich widow after one night of passion!).
But first he gets the call and surgery soon starts but he suffers from 'anesthetic awareness' - which as the movie tells us is a lot more common than it sounds!! So he is fully awake for the operation as they slice into him, break open the ribs and start to prod around. Hysterical with the pain, he has plenty of flashbacks to happier memories and also strange outer-body moments walking around in the corridors outside which don't make any sense, but anyway he overhears that there is a plot to kill him by the surgeons and take all his money. Can he wake up in time?
Our Rating: 5/10 - Good to know in case it happens to you(!)
Watchability: 2/10 - A slow, tedious movie for the most part

So, how does the movie end??
Well, no, he doesn't wake up in time.
The flashbacks tells us that Jessica Alba was his mother's assistant, which is why she doesn't approve of their relationship because it broke some bond of trust somewhere.
The mother was right as Alba is in fact the brains about it all, and keeps the others motivated with mean glares when they have second thoughts. Everyone else seems to figure out what is going on, and after rummaging around in Alba's purse for proof, the mother takes an overdose and collapses in the hospital waiting room - but before she does that has apparently phoned her surgeon friend.
He shows up with his team of SAS doctors, instantly realizes what has happened (he's a smart guy), and without much thought puts the mum in the bed next to Hayden and prepares to use her heart instead. Hayden and the mum then have some weird talk in another dimension - and she confesses to the murder of his father. Not really sure where he's best-off, he decides to return to his body and wake up.
Meanwhile the team of bad guys are hounded down and caught one-by-one - some are resigned to their fate like the evil surgeon sat behind the desk in his office, while others like Alba take things a little more vocally. She would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those pesky mothers.
