Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Our Rating: 5/10 - expected this to be the 'supreme Superhero movie'. I was rooting for Thanos at one point! Nowhere near as good as Guardians, Superman Homecoming or most individual titles
Watchability: 4/10 - bit of a bleak one!

So, how does the movie end??

Thor is rescued by the Guardians (Thor can't die we see a few times in this movie, unlike Loki or others from Asgard), and they travel to Nowhere to protect the 'reality' infinity stone ... but Thanos is already there, and kidnaps Gamora.

To protect her sister who is bring tortured, she tells him where the next Infinity stone is, and they travel to another planet where it's being protected by Red Skull. He tells them it can only be taken by someone who sacrifices a life of someone he loves - whereby Thanos throws Gamora off a cliff.

Nebula escapes and tells the Guardians to meet her on Titan, Thanos' home world. Meanwhile, Dr. Strange, Iron Man and Spiderman are hitching a ride to Titan on board the ship of one of his kids. When they arrive there's a stand-off between the Avengers and Guardians, until they realise they're on the same team.

Dr Strange runs through a million outcomes, saying that they only win one. Thanos shows up. Together the heroes manage to subdue him, about to take off his gauntlet, then Quill loses his temper when he realises that Gamora is dead. Thanos snaps out of the spell, defeats them, and is about to kill Iron Man when Strange ... strangely, gives up the Time Stone.

Thor, Rocket and Groot arrive on the planet of Nidavellir, stick with me, and get a giant dwarf motivated to make Thor a new hammer.

Everyone else makes their way to Wakandan to protect the last infinity stone, belonging to Vision who has been as useful as Hulk since he was stabbed with a little paper cut near the beginning.

The Scarlet Witch can destroy the stone, but won't do it while it is still connected to Vision. So they waste valuable hours tearing it away from him by surgery. Meanwhile Thanos and his army show up, and there's a huge fight.

Finally, Vision is free - and Scarlet destroys the stone ... until Thanos reverses time and just takes it.

He then snaps his fingers, and half the universe vanishes ... including Dr Strange, Spiderman, Black Panther and most of the Guardians. A load of the B-type heroes like Scarlet Witch, the flying guy, Bucky too.

Thanos returns home and relaxes to watch the sunset with a beer after a job well done.

Post Credits: There's carnage everywhere. Before Nick Fury evaporates, he manages to send a text message to Captain Marvel for help, who apparently isn't aware there's something big going on.

Our Comments:
Alright, I've said in the past that superhero movies are 'all the same': no surprises because we know the superhero lives, and defeats the bad guy, and saves the universe. And now we have Superman 'dying' in DC, most of the Avengers disappearing into dust in this one, the bad guy wins for a change .... and I'm still not happy! Blockbuster overdose? What do you reckon?
